The trio SUTARI is the strength of three female voices intertwining in a unique, musical harmony. Their music is a fusion of trance-like, polyphonic compositions blending tradition with modernity, revolving around themes of nature, freedom, femininity, and sisterhood. Sutari's debut marked a new quality on the Polish folk scene. The band has created a distinctive style of interpreting songs, multi-voicing, and musical storytelling. The artists experiment with various vocal techniques, create their own instruments, and explore the musical potential of everyday objects. They arrange traditional Polish songs and also compose their own pieces based on various female musical traditions.
Trio Sutari is one of Poland's leading export bands. Since their debut in 2012 at the Polish Radio New Tradition Festival (where they won the second prize and the audience award), they have performed hundreds of concerts at major festivals and stages in 22 countries worldwide. They were also selected to perform at the prestigious WOMEX music fair in 2015 and are one of the few Polish and European groups that recorded a music session for the iconic American radio station KEXP.
They have released albums such as WIANO 2014 (awarded in many Polish and international rankings, recognized with the second prize in the Folk Fonogram competition 2014), OSTY 2016, SIOSTRY RZEKI 2020 (nominated for the FRYDERYK 2021 award in the World Music category), and #KOŁYSANKIDLAŚWIATA 2024 in collaboration with Audio Cave.
They have fantastic collaborations with artists such as Hańba (PL), El Buho (UK), LUC (PL), Frander (SE), Anna & Elizabeth (USA), Barbatuques (BR), Mawaka (BR), and Dead Rat Orchestra (UK), and their works are used as teaching material in theater academies and universities both in Poland and abroad. In 2022, the album TAMOJ was released - a musical narrative about the border, both historical, expressed in old songs, and contemporary, marked by the greatest challenges of the modern world (nominated for the FRYDERYK 2023 award in the World Music category).
The band was formed in 2012 and until spring 2020 consisted of Basia Songin, Kasia Kapela, and Zosia Zembrzuska. From 2020 to 2021, Asia Kurzyńska was part of the trio, and then from 2021 to 2024, Dobromiła Życzyńska.
